Spanish Gender of nouns

22 July 02:37   In English, the verb in a book changes depending on if the noun is atypical or plural. For example, it would be grammatically amiss to address We is here, back we is plural but is is the atypical anatomy of the verb. We charge to accumulate clue of which words are atypical and which are plural, but back we apprentice that if we apprentice the word, it isnt too difficult.

In Spanish, we aswell charge to accumulate clue of addition attribute, alleged the gender.

Spanish has two grammatical genders, which are accepted as adult and feminine. Just like a chat can be atypical or plural, it can aswell be adult or feminine. Sometimes it is accessible which gender a chat is, such as the words for man and woman. Additional times, it may assume arbitrary. Just apprentice the gender of anniversary noun you learn, and you wont accept too abundant trouble.

Normally, for nouns that accurate entities with sex (people or animals) there is both a masculine-gender anatomy and a feminine-gender anatomy (example: el profesor (m), la profesora (f)).

Normally, the feminine-gender words end with the letter a and the adult words end with the letter o. If a adult chat ends with a consonant, the feminine adds a. If chat ends in a it can be both adult and feminine (el artista, la artista).

    Examples:

el nino the boy, the childla nina the babe
el accompaniment the acquaintance la amiga the changeable acquaintance
el gatothe catla gatathe changeable cat
el doctor the doctor la doctora the changeable doctor
el artista the artisan la artista the changeable artisan

Sex is not accurately bidding by the gender alone. If you wish to say I charge a changeable apprentice you can say Necesito una alumna. However, back gender is appropriate but doesnt back added meaning, the book would be bigger accepted if you say Necesito una alum mujer.

In the plural the masculine-gender anatomy indicates there is at atomic one male, or that sex is unknown. Los ninos is the children. To announce boys you haveto say los ninos varones or los ninos hombres (the macho children).

Many words in Spanish accept a anchored approximate gender, which is aswell alleged gramatical gender. This is true for all things: el pan (bread), la leche (milk). Alotof animals chase this rule: el camello (camel), la jirafa (giraffe). There are a few words activated to bodies that accept grammatical gender: el personaje (personage, character), la visita (visitor).

Normally, the feminine-gender words agree with the letter a and the masculine-gender words end with the letter o.

    Examples:

    Masculine-gender words catastrophe in o:

el camello camel
el cerro hill
el libro book

    Feminine-gender words catastrophe in a:

la paloma dove
la hierba grass
la address house

Here the endings that are archetypal for feminine nouns.

A catchword aphorism for alotof feminine-gender endings is the chat D-ion-Z-A.

There is aswell a (much beneath strict) aphorism for archetypal masculine-gender endings. The endings can be abbreviated calmly by the chat L-O-N-E-R-S:

    {| border=1 bgcolor=#9999FF

    |-

    |  ||   || Exceptions

    |-

    |-l || el arbol (tree) || la miel (honey)

    |-

    |-o || el pelo (hair) || la mano (hand)

    |-

    |-n (minus -ion) || el cinturon (belt)

    | la sarten (frying pan); however, some humans say el sarten

    |-

    |-e || el volante (steering wheel) || la muerte (death), la abject (basis)

    |-

    |-r || el olor (smell, odor) || la flor (flower)

    |-

    |-s (minus -is) || el virus (virus) ||

    |-

    |stressed beat || el daybed (sofa) || la astronomic (mother, mom)

Since there are some exceptions to some of the rules it is consistently acceptable to apprentice the gender forth with the noun. Audible onlinewriting commonly advice us to do this.

Some of these exceptions can be memorized in groups. For example, although alotof nouns that end in -a are feminine and accordingly yield the la article, some nouns that end in -ma are exceptions to the aphorism and are masculine. This is because these words accept a Greek origin. For example, el tema, el programa, el fantasma, el clima and el diploma. However, some words catastrophe in -ma accept a feminine gender: la cama, la broma, la norma, la rama, la fama, la yema, la estima, la espuma.
