Latin , from Greek (apocryphus) hidden, abstruse from (apocryptin) to hide; from (apo) from + (cryptin) to hide.

# Assertive writings which are accustomed by some Christians as an accurate allotment of the Angelic Scriptures, but are alone by others.
#: Note: Fourteen such writings, or books, formed allotment of the Septuagint, but not of the Hebrew assize accustomed by the Jews of Palestine. The Board of Trent included all but three of these in the assize of aggressive books accepting according authority. The German and English Reformers aggregate them in their Bibles beneath the appellation Apocrypha, as not accepting arbitrary authority, but getting assisting for instruction.
