Pneumatic and hydraulic systems are actuators which accommodate beeline movement. Hydraulic systems, especially, can aftermath acutely top forces.
=Pneumatic systems=
The aeriform actuator is alleged a cylinder. The agent rod (the dejected line) moves in and out of the butt (black) if pressurized air flows in the cylinder. (The red curve are the two connections.)
The force a butt applies: F = p·A
Note: the apparent breadth of the rod ancillary of the agent is abate than the additional side.
There are several altered types of cylinders:
