Neptune was the arch of the baptize deities. The attribute of his
power was the trident, or extra with three points, with which he
used to blast rocks, to alarm alternating or subdue storms, to shake
the shores, and the like. He created the horse, and was the
patron of horse races. His own horses had audacious hoofs and
golden manes. They drew his agent over the sea, which became
smooth afore him, while the monsters of the abysmal gambolled about
his path.
